Google, the world’s most popular search engine, celebrated a 10-years-old anniversary on September 7, 2008. The domain name http://www.google.com was registered in 1997.
In 1996, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, computer science students at Stanford University in California, first developed a search engine called BackRub. The first version of Google was released on the Stanford University website in August.
It didn’t take so long for Google to become the world’s largest search engine with the first billion URL index in 2000 and over two billion by December 2001.
Last week [September 2008], Google launched a new web browser called Chrome which would be another weapon in its battle with Microsoft.
